What Is the 2024 Volvo XC60?

The 2024 Volvo XC60 is a five-seat luxury compact SUV that’s notable for its comfortable ride, handsome cabin layout and impressive lineup of safety features. A 247-horsepower, turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine coupled with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system is standard, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The XC60 Recharge plug-in hybrid adds two electric motors to the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, and it’s good for an eye-opening 455 hp and an EPA-estimated 35 miles of electric-only driving range. The XC60’s rivals include the Acura RDX, Audi Q5, BMW X3, Lincoln Corsair and Mercedes-Benz GLC.

What’s New on the 2024 Volvo XC60?

Volvo streamlined the lineup for 2024, eliminating the 295-hp turbo- and supercharged engine and discontinuing front-wheel drive. Vapour Grey Metallic paint replaces 2023’s Black Stone, and metallic paint is now available at no extra charge on all trims. Last year’s optional Dark Theme is now standard, and a new Black Edition appearance package is available on the Ultimate trim. A power liftgate is newly available on all trims, and an air purifier is included on Plus and Ultimate trims. Massaging front seats are now available on the Ultimate trim.

What Features in the 2024 Volvo XC60 Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • 9-inch touchscreen
  • Google-based navigation
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • 10-speaker audio system
  • Cloth upholstery
  • 12-inch digital gauge cluster
  • Heated front seats
  • Blind spot warning
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Rain-sensing wipers
  • Lane departure steering assist
  • Lane departure warning

Available features include:

  • Leather seating surfaces
  • 360-degree camera system
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Power liftgate
  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • Heated rear seats
  • Quad-zone climate control
  • Head-up display
  • 14-speaker Harman Kardon audio system
  • 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system
  • Heated steering wheel

Should I Buy the 2024 Volvo XC60?

The Volvo XC60 remains a great choice for SUV shoppers who value a comfortable ride, a classy interior, and a long lineup of standard and optional active-safety features. The ride gets much firmer if you opt for the larger alloy wheels, however, and the price of PHEV models gets steep with higher trims.

The car has really nice performance and drives very

The car has really nice performance and drives very nicely but a few quirks. First the manuals are only available digitally and in many cases it’s a complex game to find what you are looking for. The search function is not forgiving. In other cases the information is weak and missing key elements. Some settings are sticky (rain sensor for the wipers), others are not ( auto high-beams), with no rationale. The controls on the left side of the steering wheel are a mystery and the customization on the dash board view is either: show the map or don’t show the map ( which disappears when you shift into reverse). The sound controls for the radio are lacking: no fader or balance controls. Lastly, if you want your garage door opener controls integrated into the car, be prepared to shell out another $995.
