The Volvo C30 was a sporty, upscale, compact two-door hatchback that debuted for the 2008 model year. Based on the same platform as Volvo’s S40 sedan and V50 wagon, the C30 boasted a stylish profile that harkened back to the 1800ES wagon of the early 1970s. Among the unique design touches were an all-glass rear hatch, lower body cladding and a dashboard center control stack with an open storage space behind it. Power was provided by a turbocharged five-cylinder engine that could be paired with a six-speed manual transmission, and a sport-tuned R-Design trim was available. The C30 competed with cars like the Audi A3 four-door hatchback, Mini Cooper S and Volkswagen Golf and GTI. It wasn’t quite as sporty as those rivals, however, and despite its one-of-a-kind design flair, sales were somewhat disappointing. Volvo discontinued the C30 after the 2013 model year.
2008-2013 C30
All C30s were powered by a 227-horsepower, turbocharged 2.5-liter inline cylinder engine that made 236 pounds-feet of torque. A six-speed manual transmission was standard and a five-speed automatic was optional; front-wheel drive was standard on all. Volvo offered
