2016 Toyota Sienna review: Our expert's take

What Is the 2016 Toyota Sienna?

The 2016 Toyota Sienna is a seven- to eight-seat minivan that competes with the Honda Odyssey, Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Grand Caravan and Kia Sedona. It's available in a wide range of trim levels: L, LE, SE, XLE, XLE Premium, SE Premium, Limited and Limited Premium. Mobility and Auto Access Seat versions are also available. Front-wheel drive is standard. For seven-seat versions only, all-wheel drive is standard on the LE, XLE and XLE Premium and is optional for Limited and Limited Premium trims.

What's New on the 2016 Toyota Sienna?

For 2016, the Toyota Sienna gets optional "Connected Navigation." This system pairs with the user's smartphone and delivers navigation instructions through the audio system, which also works with the Toyota EnTune multimedia system. Other new additions include optional iPhone charging via USB while EnTune is in use and Eyes Free for Apple's Siri voice-recognition system.

How Does the 2016 Toyota Sienna Compare to Other Minivans?

Compared with some competitors, the 2016 Toyota Sienna offers more creature comforts, but you'll have to pay a premium price for higher-quality interior materials and conveniences.

What Features in the 2016 Toyota Sienna Are Most Important?

The 2016 Toyota Sienna comes standard with a 266-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine, a six-speed automatic transmission, front-wheel drive and 17-inch wheels. The seven-seat cabin includes air conditioning, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, two second-row captain's chairs and a split, folding bench third-row seat. Standard safety features include remote keyless entry, a backup camera, side-impact airbags for the front seats, side curtain airbags and a knee airbag. Front airbags, antilock brakes and an electronic stability system are required in all new vehicles in this model year.

Available features for the Sienna include all-wheel drive, heated door mirrors, a trailer hitch receiver, a moonroof and power sliding rear doors. The cabin can be outfitted with eight seats, an infotainment system with navigation, heated front seats and a power driver's seat.

Should I Buy the 2016 Toyota Sienna?

The 2016 Toyota Sienna is a spacious minivan with capable performance from its V-6 engine and available all-wheel drive. Features like a touchscreen interface and a standard backup camera give it added appeal. Drivers and passengers might find themselves irritated at the engine noise and lack of small-item storage in the first and second rows.

I want another XLE!

I put 4 stars for comfort bc I bought a 2016 xle in late 2021. The pleather seats were in rough shape and had a lot of cracks and splits. Idk if that may be because the previous owner never took care of the seats or that's all the life you'll get from them.

Nicest van I have owned

Bought this van for Toyota quality and looks. It has a great interior layout and probably way more computer controls than I will use. Back glass - easy to back up. Seats are very comfortable. I wanted fold into floor back seats for hauling.
