2024 Toyota Sequoia review: Our expert's take

By Jared Gall

Fresh off a comprehensive redesign for 2023, the full-size, seven- or eight-passenger Toyota Sequoia keeps the momentum going for 2024. Available on other Toyota models, a Nightshade Package is now optional on the Sequoia’s Limited trim level, and the TRD Off-Road Package, previously available on only the SR5 and Limited trims, is now offered on the Platinum, as well.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 Standard

All Sequoia trim levels feature Toyota Safety Sense 2.5, which includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, and lane departure steering assist. Blind spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert with emergency braking, and front and rear parking sensors are also standard.

Specs: Hybrid Powertrain

Following in the Ford Expedition’s behemoth-class footsteps, the Sequoia is only available with a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine. However, Toyota does the Ford one better, turning the powertrain into a hybrid system by pairing its V-6 with a battery pack and an electric motor. Total system output is 437 horsepower and 583 pounds-feet of torque. A 10-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive are standard; four-wheel drive is available.

Trim Levels

There’s no such thing as a sparsely equipped Sequoia. Even the base SR5 includes a moonroof, keyless entry and starting, three-zone climate control, heated front seats, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 360-degree parking camera. The SR5’s 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system has wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, plus an eight-speaker audio system.

The Limited upgrades the SR5’s 18-inch wheels to 20s and adds synthetic leather, ventilated front seats and a larger 14-inch touchscreen. The newly available Nightshade Package blacks out the wheels, fender trim, badges, grille and mirrors. Also new for 2024, the Limited is available with either a bench seat or captain’s chairs in the second row; previously, captain’s chairs were only available on Platinum and higher trims.

Upgrading to Platinum gets buyers a panoramic moonroof, real leather, heated and ventilated second-row captain’s chairs, a 14-speaker JBL sound system, a wireless charging pad and ambient lighting. The Capstone’s wheels grow to 22 inches, and it’s upgraded with premium leather, wood trim, acoustically laminated glass and a head-up display.

The TRD Pro goes in a different direction — and over any terrain. Being exclusively 4WD, it rolls on 18-inch wheels wrapped in 33-inch Falken all-terrain rubber. The TRD Pro’s suspension is upgraded with Fox internal-bypass coilovers up front and remote-reservoir rear shocks, plus a unique front stabilizer bar. It also boasts a locking rear differential and an aluminum front skid plate.

Pricing and Availability

The 2024 Sequoia is on sale now. Full pricing (including $1,850 for delivery) is below. 4WD adds $3,000 to the cost of all trims except for the TRD Pro, which comes standard with it.

  • SR5: $62,725
  • Limited: $69,125
  • Platinum: $75,315
  • Capstone: $79,715
  • TRD Pro: $80,560

Versus Competitors

The 2024 Toyota Sequoia is more expensive than most other full-size SUVs, but it’s also a fresher design with a standard hybrid powertrain. The 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe starts at $56,095, and the Nissan Armada starts at $52,495. Pricing for the 2024 Expedition starts at $57,420.
