Toyota Corolla Hatchback

It’s not your imagination: New cars are getting expensive. According to recent Cars.com data, the average price of a new car hovers around $50,000, though some models remain cheaper in the sub-$30,000 bracket. Relatedly, little about the Toyota Corolla Hatchback feels cheap; it’s basic transportation, yes, but with a lengthy list of standard equipment, a comfortable ride and outstanding fuel economy, Toyota’s compact hatch draws a line between cheap and affordable. The 2025 variant is unchanged from the 2024 model — but so is its price, which starts at $24,600 (all prices include $1,095 destination).

Powertrain Specs and MPG

The humble Corolla Hatchback’s powertrain consists of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 169 horsepower and 151 pounds-feet of torque. It’s mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission that routes power to the front wheels; all-wheel drive is not available on the Corolla Hatchback, though it is offered on the sedan-only hybrid.

Official EPA figures for the 2025 model are not yet available, but for 2024, the base SE got an EPA-rated 32/41/35 mpg city/highway/combined, while larger wheels and a heftier content load bumped the Nightshade and XSE down to 30/38/33 mpg. Expect similar figures once the EPA numbers are finalized for the new model year.

Availability and Pricing

The 2025 Toyota Corolla Hatchback will go on sale later in 2024. Full line pricing is as follows:

• SE: $24,600
• Nightshade: $25,600
• XSE: $27,900

Trim Levels and Safety Equipment

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard on the 2025 Corolla Hatchback and includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure steering assist, lane-centering steering, road-sign recognition and automatic high beams.

The Corolla Hatchback SE rides on 16-inch wheels and features LED exterior lighting, keyless entry and start, automatic climate control, six speakers and an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Even this entry-level Corolla Hatchback can be had in two-tone paint, as well, with a black roof over a white, gray, black, red or blue body.

The Nightshade is only available in two-tone paint, but it rides on bronze 18-inch wheels and gets a black grille, side mirrors, spoiler and badging. It’s otherwise identical to the SE.

The least affordable Corolla Hatchback is the XSE, which includes gray 18-inch wheels, synthetic leather seating, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, and an eight-speaker JBL sound system with a wireless phone charger. Even with two-tone paint ($925), it lands comfortably below $30,000.
