Rivian

Rivian is an American electric vehicle manufacturer headquartered in Irvine, California. The company’s primary assembly plant is located in Normal, Ill., at what was once a sprawling Mitsubishi automobile plant. Rivian’s first vehicles, the R1T pickup truck and an SUV variant called the R1S, made their debut at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. After a series of delays, however, the first production models did not arrive until the 2022 model year.

Focused on off-road driving and all-terrain capability, the boxy R1T and R1S both come standard with all-wheel drive, dual- or quad-motor electric powertrains, and a choice of three battery pack sizes. Rivian also makes the EDV commercial delivery van for Amazon and other fleet customers. Smaller versions of the R1T and R1S are likely to debut in the near future.
