What Is the 2024 Ram 1500?

The Ram 1500 is a full-size pickup truck with seating for up to six people and a wide lineup of trim levels. Direct rivals include the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Ford F-150, GMC Sierra 1500 and Toyota Tundra. The Ram 1500’s base powertrain is a 305-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6, and a 395-hp, 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 is available. The performance, off-road-focused TRX gets a 702-hp, supercharged 6.2-liter V-8. All engines come with an eight-speed automatic transmission; rear- and four-wheel drive are available, though the TRX comes standard with 4WD. Notable highlights include the Ram 1500’s smooth ride, which comes courtesy of its coil-spring or air-spring rear suspension. Luxury variants, including the Limited, are decked out in copious amounts of upscale leather, wood and metal trim.

(Note: Ram still sells the budget-minded Ram 1500 Classic, which is a continuation of the truck’s previous generation, whose design dates back to 2009. It’s covered separately in the Cars.com Research section.)

What’s New on the 2024 Ram 1500?

A revamped Ram 1500 (with a new twin-turbocharged inline-six engine replacing the Hemi V-8) is on its way for the 2025 model year, so changes for 2024 are minimal. The TRX in its current form will be discontinued after 2024, and Ram will produce 4,000 TRX 6.2L Supercharged V8 – Final Edition variants. While they don’t have an increase in horsepower compared with the regular 702-hp TRX, notable extras include carbon-fiber interior trim, unique interior stitching, a badge on the center console, and satin-finish beadlock wheels and tires. The Ram 1500 Tradesman Warlock trim returns with a 1-inch raised ride height, underbody skid plates, 33-inch all-terrain tires and an electronic rear differential. Last but not least, every 2024 Ram 1500 comes standard with a tailgate-ajar warning lamp.

What Is the Towing Capacity of the 2024 Ram 1500?

The Ram 1500’s maximum towing capacity ranges from 6,120 to 12,750 pounds depending on powertrain, trim level and equipment.

How Much Does the 2024 Ram 1500 Weigh?

The Ram 1500’s curb weight ranges from 4,769 to 6,430 pounds depending on body style, trim level and equipment.

What Features in the 2024 Ram 1500 Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • 5-inch touchscreen multimedia system
  • Remote keyless entry
  • Air conditioning
  • Cruise control
  • USB ports

The last Hemi powered Rams.

The last Hemi powered Rams. I have owned a lot of trucks and my last 3 were all Ram 1500 Hemi powered. I liked the new Hurricane I6 turbo motor coming soon but also want my truck to sound like a truck. I am glad I got my 24 at the end of 2023 before I moved across the country to Texas. I have the Laramie trim level 4x4 and etorque engine. The start stop is so much smoother with the etorque system while I also enjoy that it is turned off when in tow mode. We have a Tritoon we pull behind that weights about 7,500lbs. Tows it just fine. A little more squat than I would like if I put extra supplies in the bed. However I am planning on getting airbags to assist. This is my first ram with the ram box and I love it! The dry storage is great for basic items and we use when grocery shopping every weekend. The entertainment system is good not great. Every now and then it messes us and I have to reset it. Gotta love technology but by pressing the volume and tune knob in at same time for 15 seconds it resets easily. Wireless CarPlay is great! The Harmon Kardon sound system is nice. I have a speaker rattle that the dealer is ordering a new speaker for replacement. I have had 2 recalls so far and 1 warranty visit at a local dealer. (Not the best experience) but new ownership of a large corporate owned store they just don’t seem to care. The locally owned store is now assisting me and while parts still take time it’s nice when they call you occasionally for an update vs never calling you back. My only gripe is the 23&24 ram Laramie trucks stoped. Coming with the painted fender flairs so it feels a bit naked and I got a door ding at a shopping center without that protection. (My older ram truck had it) anyway great power. Good highway fuel (20mpg not towing) I average 17mpg driving in this crazy dfw traffic. Towing it goes way down to 10-12 mpg. I averaged 11.5 driving from Ohio to Texas. Lots of tech and big interior. Looking for many years of enjoyment.
