Battery Degrading

It's a great car. The only problem is that the battery is dying. The range for driving the used Leaf was 50 miles. Now, it's between 26 to 32 miles. But, it's such a great car, I'll drive it until the battery dies. I've saved thousands of dollars by not buying gasoline,. Unfortunately, a new battery costs $5,000 and a used one costs $3,000. And I can't afford that. And Nissan doesn't care. But I love this little car. I've had no mechanical problems at all. But, I wouldn't recommend an electric car if you drive all over the state. A hybrid would be better if you travel a lot. But new electric cars can go further now. But they cost a fortune. My used car cost $6900. And it's paid off after two years. And I'm happy with it even if the battery is dying.

Horrible experience with no response from Anthony

We purchased a 2012 Nissan Leaf, was unable to drive from FtWorth to Arlington without having to charge it twice and then have it towed home, we paid $6700 cash. Called immediately was asked to take it to A certified Nissan dealer see what was wrong with it. We paid $100 for a diagnostic only to find out that the battery was completely bad and would cost $6000 to replace including parts and labor, was told to check with a third-party website to see what they would offer us and if it was not close enough they would work with us on getting another vehicle. The website they asked us to check was offering $3500. We have tried to reach out multiple times to get this situated, we have sent text and left vm with no response. The car has not been driven since we got it about 3 months ago as we can only go maybe 15 miles before it dies. We really had high hopes after speaking with the owner that this could be rectified, We offered to get a cheaper vehicle from the lot and not receive any money Back, was told That they would not do it that way as they did not want to keep additional money if a cheaper car was taken. We just want a running vehicle. Unfortunately we don’t see that, unfortunately we would not recommend this place.

2012 Nissan Leaf 8-1/2 years old

I just purchased my first EV. I already knew about battery degradation and limited range in an older Leaf. I paid $4200 for mine with 82.000 miles on it. It is really a cool little ride for around town. I am learning a lot about electric cars. My commute is 6 miles each way and I only drive to stores close by. If you are realistic about your expectations with the older models it can be a really pleasant driving experience. I strongly recommend one if you don’t have to drive far or often. So far it is much nicer than a gas powered car and I feel that I didn’t poison the air when I drove to work.

Most reliable car I’ve owned for a great price.

This car meets all my needs. Fully electric so I never have to pay for gas again. Spend the day going to school, the gym, running errands, battery/miles last me very long, save hundreds-thousands on gas yearly. Runs so smooth. USB ports to charge my phone or any other device, wireless system, Bluetooth to answer calls play my favorite music etc. Plus navigation system with charging stations included.

Unassuming comfort and performance.

Excellent performance with classic linage, truly a 4 Door Sports Car as advertised. Comfortable interior and ergonomics to fit most folks unless you are really small or large.

Most fun and economical city car I have ever owned

This car is nothing short of amazing to drive. The ride is smooth, zippy, and the handling is incredible. The front and rear heated seats, along with the heated steering wheel, make this car feel incredible during those cold mornings. These all work without making any significant dent in range. The USB port on the front is nice for charging your phone, and the Bluetooth is great for listening to music without hassle. My one complaint: battery degradation. Because the LEAF doesn’t have active cooling for the batteries, these older models have degraded batteries. Mine has 72% health still, which is enough to make it around the city (40-50 miles). However, there is no hope of leaving the city with this battery in its current state, and a replacement is anywhere from $2000 to $8500. If you look for a used LEAF, make sure that it has at least 9 bars and that its range is going to work for you for a few years.

Most Reliable Car I've Ever Owned

The Nissan Leaf is a surprising car. It's a pleasure to drive and extremely reliable. Add in the fact that it never uses gas and you have a fantastic winning combination.

Super nice ride

The Nissan Leaf 2012 SL is a wonderful car. The ChaDeMo jack charges it relatively quickly. The furthest I've driven it at a stretch is 450km, it gives a lot of good feedback on how much energy you're using and you can really stretch the range if you drive slowly. On short trips, it's a luxury car-- heated seats, heated steering wheel, working A/C, bluetooth audio, and on long trips it's much nicer than a horse or bicycle, which are its main zero-emission competitors. Don't try to compare it to a fossil fuel car when on long trips, the range of mine maxes out at 100km and the battery degrades severely over time, just think of it as an extremely comfortable somewhat-climate-controlled horse or bike, and you'll be in the right mindset to have some fun adventures in your Leaf.

Well its worse than my old car.....

I just bought the 2012 Nissan Leaf 2 days ago. It is used. It looks good as new. All the inside stuff works and everything is fine. The only thing is that i was told that i can get a whole 100mpg on one charge and that is already bs. My car takes 8 hours to charge to the most it can which it shows is only 45 miles until the next charge. That's less than half of what was promised at dealership but it doesn't even stop there. My walmart is 10 miles from my house. It took almost the whole charge to go down the street to walmart and back. I have it on charge now. I am not satisfied at all with this range of charging. My work is 30 miles from my house. I am really worried that i wont even make it and i feel like i was ripped off because they didn't say that it had charging problems when i bought it. I feel like this was false advertisement. IT would cost me almost $6k to buy a new battery and instal it. My car cost $8K so it be stupid to get a new battery when the battery is about the same as the car. I would rather worry about having a gas guzzler over not even being able to make it to work every day......

No Gas and No Regrets

This looks like a typical economy hatchback, but it's anything but. This is an all electric car, which is a completely different experience. Just plug it in at night to a regular wall outlet, and you're good to go each day, never buying gas or getting oil changes. The car is very peppy. The only downside is that the 2012 model doesn't have a very long range, so it's only good for short commutes or as a second car for local trips; if you buy one knowing that, you'll love it. The entertainment system is reasonably good. AM/FM/XM/CD/USB/Bluetooth all work as expected. The navigation is decent, but a little hard to use.
