Lexus NX 450h+

In the crossover-crazy U.S., the compact NX SUV is a hugely important vehicle for Lexus, single-handedly outselling the brand’s entire lineup of sedans and coupes. Redesigned for 2022, the NX receives only minor updates for the 2025 model year, with two new USB-C ports in the center console, a wireless charger, a power liftgate, and front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking now standard across the line. Up $1,160 from 2024, the base price for the 2025 Lexus NX is $41,765 (all prices include $1,150 destination).

Powertrain Specs, MPG and 450h+ Range

For Lexus, each alphanumeric NX designation denotes a different powertrain. The NX 250 is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, while the NX 350 has a turbocharged 2.4-liter four; both engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 350h is a hybrid, pairing the naturally aspirated 2.5-liter with a pair of electric motors and a continuously variable automatic transmission. In Lexus nomenclature, h+ refers to plug-in hybrids, and the NX450h+ retunes the 350h’s drivetrain and adds a battery pack for 37 miles of electric-only range, according to Lexus. The NX 250 is available with front- or all-wheel drive (AWD is an additional $1,600); all others include AWD as standard equipment.

The NX 250 puts out 203 horsepower and 184 pounds-feet of torque; Lexus claims it’ll accelerate from 0-60 mph in 8.2 seconds with FWD and 8.6 with AWD. The brand also estimates fuel economy at 26/33/28 mpg city/highway/combined for front drivers and 25/32/28 with AWD (official EPA numbers for the 2025 model are not yet available). With 275 hp and 317 pounds-feet, the NX 350 should hit 60 mph in 6.6 seconds and return 21/28/24 mpg, and in the NX 350h, the 2.5-liter four and electric motors produce a combined 240 hp that’s good for 60 mph in 7.2 seconds; it returns 41/37/39 mpg. With 304 total horsepower, the plug-in NX 450h+ is not the fuel economy champion of the line — at least not after that first 37 miles of electric-only travel expires — as its efficiency drops to 38/33/36 mpg. However, it is the quickest NX, hitting 60 mph in what Lexus figures is 6 seconds flat.

Availability and Pricing

The 2025 Lexus NX will go on sale in April 2024. Pricing for the full lineup is as follows.

Trim Levels and Safety Equipment

Equipment levels are consistent for each trim level regardless of powertrain — in other words, the Premium trim is the same on the NX 250 and NX 350h; ditto the NX 350 Luxury and NX 450h+ Luxury. Standard equipment includes 18-inch wheels, keyless entry and starting, synthetic leather, heated front seats, a 9.8-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a 10-speaker sound system. Lexus’ Safety System+ 3.0 suite is also standard on every NX and includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, intersection assist that can automatically brake if the driver turns in front of oncoming traffic, lane departure steering assist, lane-centering steering, adaptive cruise control and emergency steering assist. Also standard across the NX line are blind spot monitors and rear-cross traffic alert.

The NX’s Premium trim level adds a kick sensor for hands-free liftgate operation, a moonroof, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting and an expanded list of options. The Luxury trim level includes all of the above plus 20-inch wheels (on the NX 450h+), upgraded LED headlights and ambient interior lighting, real leather, a 14-inch touchscreen, a digital rearview mirror for a clear view out the back of the vehicle even if the driver’s line of sight is obstructed, a head-up display and access to additional options.

On the NX, buyers who want the sporty look — body-color fender trim and black side mirrors and window trim — have to also take the F Sport Handling’s upgraded sport suspension with adaptive dampers. The F Sport Handling otherwise includes elements of the base and Premium trim levels, though much of the Luxury trim’s additional equipment is available. It also offers a unique exterior and interior color and trim palette.
