Kia Sorento

Fresh off an update for 2024 that saw its grille and headlights tweaked for a closer family resemblance to the larger Telluride, the Kia Sorento rolls into the 2025 model year largely unchanged; it only gets black badging for the X-Line and X-Pro trims as well as a new gray exterior color choice. That goes for its base price, too, which stands firm at $33,365 (all prices include $1,375 destination).

The Sorento competes in a packed class against entries from nearly every mainstream automaker, but it’s unique in that it features a standard third-row seat and offers two hybrid powertrains. (You can read about the regular hybrid and plug-in hybrid separately.)

Powertrain Specs and MPG

The 2025 Sorento’s base LX and S trims are powered by a 191-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine making 195 pounds-feet of torque; it’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The LX is only available with front-wheel drive, while all-wheel drive is available on the S for $2,000 extra. The EX, SX and SX Prestige — which Kia abbreviates as SX-P — get a turbocharged version of the 2.5-liter that cranks output up to 281 hp and 312 pounds-feet. This engine is paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic and is available with either FWD or AWD.

Though official 2025 figures are not yet available, the 2024 LX and FWD S return an EPA-rated 23/31/26 mpg city/highway/combined; the AWD S is rated at 23/28/25 mpg. Turbocharged Sorentos get 20/29/23 mpg with FWD and 20/27/23 mpg with AWD.

The 2025 Kia Sorento will go on sale later in 2024. Full pricing is as follows:

Safety Features and Trim Levels

Kia’s Drive Wise safety suite is standard on every 2025 Sorento. It includes forward collision warning with pedestrian and bicyclist detection and automatic emergency braking, intersection assist, adaptive cruise control, lane-centering steering, lane departure warning, lane departure steering assist, blind spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, driver attention monitor, safe-exist assist, rear occupant alert and automatic high beams.

The LX rides on 17-inch wheels and features LED front lighting, keyless entry and start, and cloth seating. It also gets six speakers and a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and voice recognition.

The Sorento S adds front and rear parking sensors and upgrades to 18-inch wheels. Inside, it adds synthetic leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, navigation and satellite radio.

Sorentos from the EX on up include the more powerful turbocharged engine as standard equipment. Additionally, the EX features 20-inch gloss-black wheels, a power liftgate, a power-adjustable passenger seat and second-row captain’s chairs. The X-Line buffs up the Sorento with black finishes on the grille, window trim and roof rack, plus faux skid plates front and rear.

Kia upgrades the SX’s safety suite with emergency steering assist, blind spot cameras and a 360-degree camera system, and Highway Driving Assist 2 allows for hands-free highway driving and automated lane changes on certain roads. The SX also gets a panoramic moonroof, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, rain-sensing windshield wipers and LED rear lighting.

The SX-P boasts perforated leather seating, a heated steering wheel, 12-speaker Bose surround-sound audio system and a rearview camera mirror that gives the driver a clear view out the back even if their line of sight is obstructed by passengers or cargo. The X-Line consists of the same equipment as on lower trim levels, while the X-Pro trades the 20-inch wheels for matte-black 17s wearing all-terrain rubber.
