Jeep Cherokee

A great looking car. We will probably never learn all of the features the car has. Dealer was excellent and no problems working with them. Only one thing not to like was the location of the Emergency Brake lever. Things seem to get set there, and locking the lever.

2023 Jeep Cherokee review: Our expert's take

What Is the 2023 Jeep Cherokee?

The Jeep Cherokee compact SUV has seating for five and comes standard with a 180-horsepower four-cylinder engine in the base Altitude Lux trim; a 270-hp turbo-four is in the range-topping Trailhawk. All-wheel drive is standard on both trims. The Cherokee comes standard with a wide range of comfort, tech and active safety features. While it’s excellent when it comes to venturing off-road, especially in the rugged Trailhawk trim, there’s no hiding the fact that the current Cherokee is roughly 10 years old and due for replacement. Rivals include the Ford Bronco Sport, Honda CR-V, Subaru Forester and Toyota RAV4.

What’s New on the 2023 Jeep Cherokee?

The previously available 271-hp V-6 engine has been dropped, and Jeep has trimmed the Cherokee range to two trim levels: Altitude Lux and Trailhawk. With the previous base front-wheel-drive models no longer available, the Cherokee’s base price has risen considerably from the 2022 model year. AWD is now standard on every 2023 Cherokee, however, and newly standard features include leather seating and adaptive cruise control.

What Features in the 2023 Jeep Cherokee Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • 8.4-inch touchscreen
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Subscription-based Wi-Fi hot spot
  • Leather seating
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Heated front seats
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Blind spot warning
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Four USB ports

Available features include:

  • Underbody skid plates (Trailhawk)
  • Automatic high-beam headlights
  • Panoramic moonroof
  • Low-speed crawl mode
  • All-terrain tires
  • Nappa leather seating surfaces
  • Locking rear differential

Should I Buy the 2023 Jeep Cherokee?

The 2023 Jeep Cherokee is probably best in its go-anywhere Trailhawk trim. It endows this compact SUV with all-terrain driving prowess that leaves most of the competition in the dust (or whatever type of terrain they happen to be traversing). While the level of standard equipment is high, so is the Cherokee’s base price, and cargo room ranks toward the bottom of the segment, too. A completely new Cherokee featuring some kind of fuel-saving electrified powertrain is likely coming next year.
