2016 Ford Mustang review: Our expert's take

What Is the 2016 Ford Mustang?

The 2016 Ford Mustang is a four-seat sports car that competes with the Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger. It's available in coupe and convertible body styles, as well as five trim levels: base, EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT and GT Premium. High-performance Shelby GT350 and GT350R versions are also available, and are covered separately.

What's New on the 2016 Ford Mustang?

For 2016, the Ford Mustang can be had with an available black-painted roof and racing stripes, plus Black Accent, California Special and Pony packages. The Ford Sync 3 touchscreen multimedia system is also optional.

How Does the 2016 Ford Mustang Compare to Other Sports Cars?

Completely redesigned in 2015, the Ford Mustang's fresh look and technologies give it an edge over competitors. Additionally, its price range is wide. Compared with the Chevrolet Camaro, the Mustang offers greater visibility and a nicer interior. The Dodge Challenger presents more powerful engines and competitive fuel economy, but isn't available as a convertible. Some unorthodox competitors, such as the Subaru BRZ, Hyundai Genesis coupe and Honda Accord coupe, are comparably priced but don't match the Mustang's performance.

What Features in the 2016 Ford Mustang Are Most Important?

The 2016 Ford Mustang comes standard with a 300-horsepower, 3.7-liter V-6 engine, six-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. The Mustang rides on 17-inch wheels. Additional features include dual exhaust tips, a backup camera, remote keyless entry, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, cruise control and air conditioning. As required in all new vehicles in this model year, front airbags, antilock brakes and an electronic stability system are also standard.

Available engines include a 310-hp, turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder and a 435-hp 5.0-liter V-8. A six-speed automatic transmission is optional, as is a spoiler. Interior add-ons include the Sync 3 multimedia system, a navigation system, and heated and ventilated front seats.

Should I buy the 2016 Ford Mustang?

The 2016 Ford Mustang is a stylish fastback coupe or convertible with powerful acceleration from its V-8 and turbo engines. Although interior quality is impressive, its tight backseat and optional Recaro seats do nothing to improve comfort.

I expected better

Love Mustangs, BUT, had to replace hood, paint contamination from factory, replace screen, totally went out, now have corrosion in trunk lip. What’s next? It’s only a 2016!
