2014 Ford Edge review: Our expert's take

What Is the 2014 Ford Edge?

The 2014 Ford Edge is a five-seat, mid-size SUV that competes with the Nissan Murano, Hyundai Santa Fe Sport and Toyota Venza. Trim levels include the SE, SEL, Limited and Sport. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available on every trim.

What's New on the 2014 Ford Edge?

The Ford Edge has no significant changes for 2014.

What Features in the 2014 Ford Edge Are Most Important?

The 2014 Edge comes standard with a 285-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine working with a six-speed automatic transmission. A 240-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with fuel-saving active grille shutters is available, as is a 305-hp, 3.7-liter V-6.

Standard features include cloth upholstery, slender headlights and 17-inch aluminum wheels. Options include 18-, 20- or 22-inch rims, as well as xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights, a unique black grille on the Sport, leather upholstery, rear parking sensors, power-adjustable front seats, Ford's Sync multimedia system, a backup camera, touch-sensitive pads to replace traditional buttons, a power liftgate, adaptive cruise control, a Sony audio system, and MyFord Touch with an LCD screen in the instrument cluster and an 8-inch touchscreen in the middle of the dashboard.

Standard safety features include antilock brakes, an electronic stability system with Roll Stability Control, a MyKey system allowing parents to impose vehicle restrictions on teen drivers, side-impact airbags for the front seats, and side curtain airbags for both rows. Available safety features include a collision warning system, blind spot warning, a backup camera and rear parking sensors.

Should I Buy the 2014 Ford Edge?

The Edge is a better choice for shoppers who value comfort, strong drivetrains and good handling; those looking for easy-to-operate controls or an easy-to-park vehicle won't appreciate the Edge's touchy controls or wide body.

Sporty, loaded, and comfortable

One of the best cars I have owned. I have the 2014 Edge Sport model. I still have it. Traded in a Mercedes for it! It handles like a sports car with the 22 inch rims, is has great pickup and all the amenities I could want like the Mercedes. Also, no mechanical problems to date 2022! Highly recommend.
