What Is the 2021 BMW 8 Series?

The BMW 8 Series is a high-end luxury car that’s offered in three body styles — coupe, convertible and four-door Gran Coupe — with seating for four or five, depending on the configuration. The 840i is powered by a 335-horsepower, turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine, while the M850i and M8 Gran Coupe get turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8s rated at 523 and 600 hp, respectively.

An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard, and rear- and all-wheel-drive models are available. Competitors include the Porsche Panamera and Mercedes-Benz SL-Class and CLS-Class

What’s New on the 2021 BMW 8 Series?

Lane departure warning is now standard, along with a one-year subscription to SiriusXM with 360L satellite radio. Coupe and convertible versions of the M8 will no longer be imported to the U.S., leaving only the M8 Gran Coupe for the 2021 model year.

What Features in the 2021 BMW 8 Series Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • Leather upholstery
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity
  • Wi-Fi hot spot (subscription required after data trial)
  • Harman Kardon surround-sound system
  • Digital instrument cluster
  • Forward collision warning
  • City collision mitigation
  • Automatic high-beam headlights

Available features include:

  • Hands-free low-speed highway driving system
  • Bowers & Wilkins surround-sound system
  • 360-degree camera system
  • Four-wheel steering

Should I Buy the 2021 BMW 8 Series?

If you’re in the market for a luxurious European sedan that’s a bit more stylish than a BMW 7 Series or Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the 8 Series Gran Coupe is worth a look. The coupe and convertible variants are sportier still, and that’s not counting the high-performance M8 Gran Coupe. Whichever version you choose, you’ll be getting a premium grand tourer that’s packed with technology.

Most advanced and amazing vehicle I've ever owned

Beautiful and sporty design. Very Technologically advanced. Full of comfort and safety features. More luxurious thank I imagined. There was a great amount of innovation invested in giving the driver a powerful driving experience. Masters the road and the design is aero dynamic.
