2012 Audi TT review: Our expert's take

Vehicle Overview

The distinctively styled Audi TT sports car is available in coupe or roadster form. It’s powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and all models have all-wheel drive. Competitors include the BMW Z4 and Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class.

Audi offers two high-performance versions of the TT: the TTS and TT RS. The TT RS is covered in a separate report in the Cars.com Research section.

New for 2012
There are no significant changes for 2012.

Exterior
The TT has a taut, muscular appearance that helps distinguish it on the road. It’s immediately recognizable as an Audi thanks to the large trapezoidal grille that dominates the car’s front end. The coupe’s roofline tapers gracefully to its tail. Exterior features include:

  • Aluminum-intensive construction
  • 18-inch wheels; 19-inch wheels available
  • LED daytime running lights
  • Retractable spoiler
  • Heated side mirrors
  • Available S line styling cues

Interior
The TT coupe has front bucket seats and a small rear seat. The large rear hatch opens to a cargo space that Audi says can carry two golf bags. The TT roadster is a two-seater. The driver faces two large, round gauges behind a flat-bottom, multifunction steering wheel. The air vents on the dashboard are round, too, and trimmed with aluminum. Interior features include:

  • CD stereo with MP3 jack and satellite radio; six-CD changer available
  • Automatic air conditioning
  • Cruise control
  • Brushed aluminum trim
  • Leather/Alcantara simulated suede seat upholstery
  • Available Nappa leather upholstery and heated front seats
  • Available Bose stereo
  • Available LED lighting
  • Available DVD-based navigation system
  • Available iPod connectivity

Under the Hood
The TT is powered by a 211-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that makes 258 pounds-feet of torque. It’s mated to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Mechanical features include:

  • Engine uses premium gas
  • All-wheel drive

Safety
Safety features include:

  • Antilock brakes
  • Side-impact airbags for the front seats
  • Front knee airbags
  • Electronic stability system

TTS
The TTS is a high-performance version of the TT. Available in roadster and coupe versions, both with all-wheel drive, the TTS is powered by a 265-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 258 pounds-feet of torque. The only transmission offered is a six-speed dual-clutch automatic.

The TTS features unique bi-xenon high-intensity-discharge headlamps with LED daytime running lights. There’s also a larger lower air intake up front, lower rocker panels on the sides, a rear diffuser and quad exhaust pipes out back. Back to top

The world's perfect car

This car is so fun to drive, just purchased over new years. Rock solid on snow and ice, crazy fast and extremely comfortable. Ample storage in back. Back seats even work great for my kids (unexpected bonus), all of this with 30+ mpg and affordable price for what you get = world's perfect car!
