Snow belt denizens can attest that foul weather doesn’t last all year — and you don’t have to live in California or Florida to enjoy open-top motoring. A good set of all-season or winter tires can increase viability, especially if you live somewhere roads are regularly plowed. But for true all-season capability, a handful of automakers offer convertibles with all-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.

Note, of course, that the road-hugging profile on most convertibles makes for little ground clearance, an impediment in deep snow regardless of driveline. (Here’s the difference between the two.) Yes, convertible SUVs are a thing — and if it’s more your style, a few discontinued examples also fit the bill.
