When Nissan neglected to build any GT-Rs for the 2022 model year, it was reasonable to assume the car, which debuted for 2009, was gone for good. But like Godzilla, the movie monster from which Nissan’s sports car derives its nickname, the GT-R is back with a new look. Now, Nissan has announced a pair of special editions to entice buyers: the T-Spec Takumi Edition and Skyline Edition.

T-Spec Takumi Edition

Based on the mid-level GT-R T-Spec, the Takumi Edition pays homage to the team of four men who assemble each GT-R’s twin-turbo 3.8-liter V-6 engine by hand. In Japanese, the word “takumi” refers to an elite artisan or master craftsman. Each engine built by Nissan’s takumi is finished with a plaque bearing its builder’s name. This special edition features a gold vehicle identification number plate under the hood and red script on the engine plate signifying the builder has exercised what Nissan describes as “an elevated level of attention to precise engine tolerances and component balancing during assembly.” The company expects its devotees will find these engines particularly desirable.

The Takumi Edition is available exclusively in Midnight Purple with Mori Green interior trim — a combination also offered on the regular-production T-Spec. Like other T-Specs, the Takumi Edition features gold-painted wheels and wider front fenders than the base Premium trim, as well as carbon-ceramic brakes and a vehicle dynamic control system borrowed from the range-topping NISMO.

Skyline Edition

Nissan’s second special-edition GT-R is based on the entry-level Premium trim. The Skyline Edition honors the GT-R’s famed Japanese nameplate by combining Bayside Blue paint with a new Sora Blue interior color. Bayside Blue was a longtime staple of the GT-R palette, retired with the R34 generation and then revived in 2019 for the car’s 50th anniversary special edition.

Availability and Pricing

The 2024 Nissan GT-R Skyline Edition and T-Spec Takumi Editions will arrive at dealerships in the summer. Nissan says production will be “very limited” but hasn’t yet specified what that means or what sort of premium they’ll carry over their respective trim levels.
