In the third major recall of its year, Subaru has put out a call to repair more than 165,000 vehicles from its 2018-20 model-year lineup over a faulty fuel pump. The recall also includes certain Toyota 86 coupes, which were jointly developed alongside the Subaru BRZ.
The issue stems from the low-pressure fuel pump inside the fuel tank, which may fail and cause an engine stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. Affected vehicles include model-year 2018 Forester wagons; model-year 2018-19 BRZ coupes and WRX sedans and hatchbacks; model-year 2018-20 Impreza and Legacy sedans and Outback wagons; model-year 2019-20 Ascent SUVs; and model-year 2018-19 Toyota 86 coupes.
Dealers will replace the low-pressure fuel pump for free as a repair; Subaru will begin notifying owners Sept. 13. Those with further questions can call the automaker at 844-373-6614, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
