After a quiet period for major recalls for Nissan, a new recall has emerged for the brand’s Leaf electric vehicle. The issue involves unintentional acceleration after cruise control is disengaged and affects more than 66,100 vehicles.
Affected vehicles include model-year 2018-23 Leaf EVs. The vehicle control module software may cause sustained engine torque, or unintentional acceleration, if a driver switches driving modes (for example, from Drive to Eco), then applies and releases the accelerator pedal within eight seconds after turning off cruise control. Unintentional acceleration may increase the risk of a crash.
To resolve the issue, dealers will reprogram the vehicle control module for free. Owners will be notified Aug. 30, but those with further questions can contact the automaker at 1-800-867-7669 (Nissan’s number for this recall is R23A6), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
