Kia and its parent company, Hyundai, have already established themselves as something of an electric-vehicle powerhouse. We named the Kia EV9 our Best Electric Vehicle of 2025, and three of the nine runners-up for the award are made by the Korean conglomerate and its luxury spinoff, Genesis: the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 and the Genesis Electrified GV70. Now, Kia has pulled the cover off the production exterior of its next EV, the EV4 compact sedan.

Kia first showed off the EV4 in concept form a year ago at an event it called EV Day, but other than the wheels and mirrors, the production versions have hardly changed on the outside. The dramatic fastback sedan sports styling similar to that of the new Kia K4, in which black trim around the C-pillar and rear window creates a visual disconnect between the body sides and roof. The EV4 appears to be slightly shorter overall, with upright rear bodywork promising a more spacious cargo hold.

As with many other Kias, the company also showed off a sportier EV4 GT-Line trim, which features 19-inch wheels, wing-shaped front and rear bumpers, and other visual sports-car-inspired nods.

Specs and Speculation

Kia hasn’t shared any technical details on the EV4 yet, but it likely rides on a version of the platform that underpins the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, as well as Kia’s EV6. The Ioniq 5 and EV6 offer battery packs capable of storing 63 or 84 kilowatt-hours of energy, good for range in excess of 300 miles, as well as a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive.

If its lower alphanumeric designation translates to a less expensive place in Kia’s lineup than the EV6 and EV9, the EV4 could start below $40,000 — a price tag that aims squarely at the entry-level Tesla Model 3. That would land it comfortably among the most affordable EVs for sale today along with four other Hyundai-Kia offerings.

The biggest question about the EV4, though, is whether or not Kia will sell it in the United States. A Kia spokesperson confirmed to Cars.com that the company has yet to announce whether the EV4 will be sold here or not, but an answer may be imminent. The brand is hosting its second EV Day on Feb. 24, and we hope to find out about the automaker’s plans for the EV4 then.
