In early September, nearly 145,000 model-year 2022-23 Kia Sorento SUVs were recalled for backup camera issues that resulted from breaking mounting clips. Now, the South Korean brand is recalling nearly 83,700 Sorentos for a similar issue — but with a different cause.
Affected vehicles include model-year 2019 Sorentos. The issue is with the rearview camera image, which may not display due to water intrusion in the rear of the camera because of an error in manufacturing. Such a problem increases the risk of a crash.
To fix the issue, dealers will inspect the rearview camera and add waterproofing to the camera harness, as well as replace the camera if necessary, for free. Kia will begin sending owner notification letters Nov. 13, but those with further questions in the meantime can call the company at 800-333-4542 (recall number SC282), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
