Looking like a next-gen Telluride but gliding along silently on electric power, the three-row 2024 Kia EV9 could be a major win for the South Korean brand. We’ve already detailed the SUV in depth here, and now the brand has released some more information, including trim levels, safety tech and reservation timing.

The EV9 will be available in four trim levels: Light, Wind, Land and GT-Line. The Light trim will ride on 19-inch wheels and feature body-color mirrors and silver trim. Upper trims will include 20-inch wheels and gloss-black exterior trim, as well as upgraded LED headlights and a new Digital Pattern Lighting Grille that integrates additional lighting elements into the body-color grille. This will present a smooth, uniform face, with the lights only appearing when illuminated; buyers will be able to choose from five lighting patterns for this feature. The GT-Line will be fitted with 21-inch wheels, gunmetal bumper trim, dark beltline moldings and the unique Digital Pattern Lighting Grille design.

Driving, Parking, Sharing

In addition to the full suite of currently available Kia safety tech, the EV9 will debut some new systems. Remote Smart Parking Assist 2, which will be optional on the Land and standard on the GT-Line, will now be able to handle the easiest parking task short of abandoning your car in the middle of the road: diagonal. Kia says it will also fit the EV9 with its Advanced Highway Driving Assist, a system that uses lidar to improve the vision of the brand’s existing highway-assist tech; it combines adaptive cruise control and lane-centering steering. The next-generation of Kia’s Digital Key not only allows the owner to use a paired smartphone as a key, but allows the “keys” to the vehicle to be shared over text message.

Kia hasn’t revealed all of the EV9’s interior dimensions yet but did share a few random measurements. Second-row headroom measures 39.8 inches without a moonroof, compared to 40.2 for the Telluride. Legroom in the second row is 42.8 inches, 0.4 more than the gas-powered SUV. At 32 inches, the third-row seat will have 0.6 inch more room than the Telluride. Kia isn’t sharing any other measurements yet.

Pack It Up, Pack It In

As we noted before, the standard battery pack will be 76.1 kilowatt-hours, with a 99.8-kWh pack available. The lower-capacity pack is paired with a single motor on the rear axle and is rated at 215 horsepower; with the larger pack, the single motor on the rear is rated at 201 hp. With this configuration, Kia says it’s targeting 300 miles of range. The larger pack will also be available with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup good for 379 hp and 516 pounds-feet of torque. With a Boost function that temporarily puts out more power, the EV9 is said to be capable of going from 0-60 mph in under 5 seconds. Kia hasn’t shared any other range estimates, but they are presumably lower than 300 miles.

Built on the same 800-volt electrical architecture as the EV6, the EV9 will have an 11-kilowatt onboard charger capable of a maximum DC fast-charging speed of 236 kilowatts. Kia says it should be able to charge from 10% to 80% in under 25 minutes. The EV9 will be able to share that power, functioning as a mobile power source through integrated outlets, and will even be able to power a home through the available Wallbox Quasar 2 bidirectional charger.

Off the Reservation

Advanced reservations will begin in the fourth quarter of this year. Details of the program and pricing will be revealed at a later date. Kia will be moving production of U.S.-market EV9s to West Point, Ga., in 2024; the EV9 will be the first Kia to be assembled locally.

Stay tuned for more information.
