Ford is recalling more than 450,000 examples of its Bronco Sport SUV and Maverick pickup truck due to an issue with the body and powertrain control modules that may prevent them from detecting a low battery state of charge.
Affected vehicles include model-year 2021-24 Bronco Sports and model-year 2022-23 Mavericks. The body and powertrain control modules in the affected vehicles may fail to detect a change in the state of charge of the 12-volt battery, which could result in loss of electrical accessories, like hazard lights, or a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.
To resolve the issue, dealers will recalibrate the body and powertrain control modules for free. Ford will notify vehicle owners May 13, but those with further questions can contact the automaker’s customer service at 866-436-7332 (Ford’s number for this recall is 24S24), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
