BMW does not make car buying easy — at least not the decision-making part of car buying. Door counts, engine choices, transmissions, rear- or all-wheel drive, traditional sedans and “Gran Coupe” flowing rooflines, M Sport add-ons and packages, and full-bore M models; the decision to buy a BMW is a commitment to an inordinate number of additional decisions between needing a new car and parking one in your driveway. You didn’t think electrification would change that, did you?
For 2024, the i4 family adds an i4 xDrive40. Previously, the 536-horsepower i4 M50 was the only all-wheel-drive, all-electric 4 Series available (the 282-hp eDrive35 and 335-hp eDrive40 being rear-wheel drive). With the 396-hp xDrive40, there’s an enhanced-traction i4 for customers less interested in probing the limits of said traction. The new EV has two electric motors, and the automaker says it can go from 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds.
BMW claims a 307-mile range with the standard 18-inch wheels, which would make the xDrive40 have the greatest reach of any i4 (with the available 19-inch wheels, range is 282 miles). Prices for the i4 xDrive40 start at $62,595 (all prices include destination), and deliveries are expected to start in the fall.
The i7 also is now available with RWD in eDrive50 form that comes with a single electric motor on the rear axle boasting output of 449 hp. BMW will release range estimates for the new i7 closer to the model’s launch in the fall. Pricing will start at $106,695.
