Back In Black: 2025 Honda Pilot Capped by New Black Edition, Priced from $41,295

Honda redesigned its Pilot three-row SUV for the 2023 model year and is still in the process of filling out its lineup. Rejoining the family after disappearing in the redesign is the Black Edition, a range-topping trim level that takes all of the luxury and comfort of the Elite trim and adds a dose of monochromatic menace. It’s not unexpected, as both the closely related Passport five-seat SUV and Ridgeline pickup truck also have Black Editions capping their ranges; and since the Pilot debuted the TrailSport off-road trim in 2023, both of those vehicles have gained similar models.

Back in Black

As in the Passport and Ridgeline, the Pilot Black Edition rides on black 20-inch wheels and features numerous black exterior accents, including the grille trim, mirror housings, front fascia ducting and window trim. Inside, the Black Edition gets red accent stitching on the steering wheel, door panels and deep-red-tinted perforated leather seats, as well as red accent lighting.
Standard Honda Sensing Safety Suite
Honda Sensing, the automaker’s raft of advanced driver-assist systems, is standard on every 2025 Honda Pilot. It includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, lane departure steering assist, lane-centering steering and adaptive cruise control. Blind spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert and a head-up display are all available on the upper trim levels.
Powertrain Specs and MPG
All 2025 Honda Pilots are powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 engine making 285 horsepower and 262 pounds-feet of torque and paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard; all-wheel drive is a $2,100 option on the lower trim levels and standard on the TrailSport, Elite and Black Edition. With FWD, the Pilot gets an estimated 19/27/22 mpg city/highway/combined, according to Honda (official EPA numbers for the 2025 model are not yet available). AWD Pilots are rated at 19/25/21, while the TrailSport’s greater ride height and off-road tires knock it down to 18/23/20 mpg.
