Volkswagen’s first big recall of 2024 affects more than 261,200 vehicles across both its lineup and that of its Audi luxury arm. The issue concerns a fuel leak that could lead to a fire.
Affected vehicles include front-wheel-drive examples of model-year 2015-20 Audi A3 sedans and VW Golf and Golf GTI hatchbacks; model-year 2015-19 VW Golf SportWagen wagons; and model-year 2019-20 VW Jetta sedans. Due to a problem with a suction jet pump seal inside the fuel tank, fuel may flow into the evaporative emissions system and possibly leak out of the charcoal canister. Such a leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
Dealers will replace the suction pump for free to resolve the issue. Audi and VW will begin notifying owners April 12; those with further questions can contact VW at 800-893-5298, Audi at 800-253-2834, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
