2025 Subaru Legacy, Outback Mostly Unchanged; Priced From $26,040 and $30,290

Having recently refreshed the duo — which are very closely related mechanically — with more standard equipment, Subaru isn’t changing its Legacy sedan and Outback wagon much for the 2025 model year. The company is claiming that the vehicles’ base prices are the same as last year, which is technically true; their MSRPs are unchanged, but the destination charges rolled into the final price for both tick upward just a few bucks — $25 for the Legacy and $50 for the Outback.

What’s New
For 2025, the Limited trim levels of both the Legacy and Outback gain a few popular options as standard equipment. The additional features include a power moonroof, heated steering wheel, driver attention monitor and the larger 11.6-inch Starlink infotainment touchscreen.
Standard and Optional Safety Features
Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assistance technology suite is standard on both cars. It includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and lane-centering steering. Available equipment includes rear cross-traffic alert with automatic braking, blind spot monitors and emergency steering assist.

Powertrain Specs and MPG
The base engine in the 2025 Legacy and Outback is a 2.5-liter flat-four that makes 182 horsepower and 176 pounds-feet of torque; a turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-four generating 260 hp and 277 pounds-feet is available. Both engines are mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels.
Though 2025 EPA figures are not yet available, 2024 Legacys with the base engine get an EPA-rated 27/35/30 mpg city/highway/combined; with the turbo, the Legacy Sport and Touring XT are rated at 23/31/26. The 2024 Outback gets an EPA-rated 26/32/28 mpg with the 2.5-liter engine and 22/29/25 mpg with the turbo. With a taller ride height and all-terrain tires, the Wilderness trim level manages just 21/26/23 mpg.
