2025 Mini Cooper 4-Door: Next-Gen Mini With a Bigger Backseat
Competes with: BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, Honda Civic, Volkswagen Golf GTI
Looks like: A cleaner, hungrier Mini Cooper 4-Door
Powertrains: 2.0-liter four-cylinder (Cooper) or 201-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (Cooper S); seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (Cooper S); front-wheel drive
Hits dealerships: September 2024 (Cooper S), January 2025 (Cooper)
With the two-door Cooper Hardtop arriving at dealerships soon, Mini’s next-generation lineup is set to grow — in variety and dimensionally — with the 2025 Mini Cooper 4-Door. Uniquely true to its name, the Cooper 4-Door is about 10 inches shorter than even a four-port Volkswagen Golf GTI. The critical measurements are hardly changed from the outgoing car, though, with the 2025 model growing less than an inch or two in length, height and width. The 4-Door’s wheelbase is unchanged, which should mean interior space is likewise similar.

Style-Conscious Approach
Mini sums up its latest design language as “charismatic simplicity.” Based on that directive — and the brand — the new Cooper 4-Door is a clear and expressive evolution of the brand’s cheeky style and attention to detail. The inverted-bathtub body, blacked-out greenhouse and circular headlights are instantly recognizable. Around back, taillights that evoke the Union Jack are connected by a thick, black trim strip.
Mini is offering the 4-Door in three styles: Classic, Favoured and JCW. In the Classic style, the Cooper is available with a black, white or body-color roof. The Favoured style features silver finishes for the grille and exterior trim, as well as an available Multitone roof that fades from blue at the front to white at the back of the car. It’s fitted with perforated sport seats that complement the houndstooth-patterned dash. All three styles are upholstered in synthetic leather and feature a cloth dash spun from recycled polyester.
In this case, the JCW is just an appearance package, unlike Mini’s full-blown John Cooper Works performance models. The JCW style does, however, look the part, with a JCW Aero Kit featuring a front splitter, rear diffuser and spoiler; it also gets a unique grille and gloss-black finishes on the fender trim, brake calipers and exterior badging. Like the Favoured style, the JCW gets sport seats that are upholstered in black with red stitching.
Mini’s Take on Tech
The 2025 Cooper 4-Door’s minimalist interior concentrates all instrumentation and secondary controls in a large, round 9.4-inch touchscreen in the center of the dash. The top of the screen serves as the instrument cluster, and the lower portion controls navigation and infotainment functions. Running Mini Operating System 9, the infotainment system boasts voice control over a variety of vehicle operations. Additionally, Mini’s Intelligent Personal Assistant can learn from the driver’s routines and automate various tasks, such as lowering a window when entering a parking garage.
Lights on the back of the circular display project different user-selectable colors and patterns onto the dashboard. Various projections can be tied to vehicle modes and are integrated with the ambient interior lighting. Below the screen is a row of Mini’s signature toggle switches, which control major functions like the vehicle ignition, shifter and parking brake. Mini has yet to run down the rest of the Cooper 4-Door’s full technological capabilities, but the company does say that Parking Assistant Plus, which automates parking, will be available. That’s neat, but it does raise the question of how someone who can’t even park a Mini got a driver’s license in the first place.

Greasy Pieces
As with the previous Cooper 4-Door, the 2025 model will be available in base Cooper and higher-output Cooper S trims. All Mini has revealed so far about the base version is that it will be powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Seeing as Mini’s parent company, BMW, hasn’t built a normally aspirated engine in about a decade, it’s almost certainly turbocharged.
The Cooper S’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder is turbocharged and makes 201 horsepower and 221 pounds-feet of torque. The only available transmission is a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, and front-wheel drive is standard.
Pricing and Release Date
The S trim will be the first 2025 Mini Cooper 4-Door to arrive in the U.S., with deliveries set to begin in early September; the base Cooper will follow in January 2025. The Cooper S will start at $34,195 (including $995 destination), and pricing and additional specifications for the Cooper will be available closer to the start of sales.
