2024 Hyundai Kona Gets EV-Inspired Styling Inside and Out
The current-generation Hyundai Kona is one of the automaker’s strongest-selling models. Now, the subcompact SUV is getting a significant facelift for 2024, which aims to take the nameplate in a whole new direction while also pointing at what could be next for other Hyundai offerings.

Sharing Ioniq Resemblance
While the core shape of the Kona will carry over for 2024, images point to a canvas heavily influenced by the Ioniq 5 EV. The fascia features new low-mounted headlamps and daylight running lights housed in a slender light bar (it will be pixelated on the electric variant). The rear will also have a large wraparound light bar with the pixel light theme found on the Ioniq 5 and larger Ioniq 6 sedan. This would be a noticeable departure from the outgoing Kona, which had a more athletic persona versus the rounded lines that define the 2024 model.
Screens, Simplified Design Dominate Interior
Inside, the dashboard design is simplified, and the Kona now incorporates the instrument panel and infotainment system into a pair of 12.3-inch floating screens — again reminiscent of those in the Ioniq 5. Second-row passengers also get a “curveless” bench seat, along with a flat rear floor (at least in the EV) that eliminates the prominent central hump and enhances leg and knee room for passengers. The 2024 Kona also adopts a column-mounted shifter, with the old push-button shifter perhaps limited to the gas and hybrid models only.
Hyundai’s reveal stopped short of providing a more detailed picture of what each variant will offer, and it didn’t give a timetable on when we can expect to see the 2024 Kona debut. Hyundai did confirm, however, that the sporty N Line will make its return and a hybrid version will be offered in the U.S., as well. Stay tuned for more details.
