With the 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 set to launch this summer, GMC has revised two critical numbers relating to its electric pickup truck, both of which make it more appealing to potential buyers. The brand says the truck’s estimated range has increased 10%, from 400 miles to 440, and the price has dropped a similar percentage. Whereas the limited-edition launch model was expected to start near $110,000, GMC has announced a starting price of $99,495, including $1,995 destination.

Launch Party

Like the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV First Edition — which costs $3,000 less — the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 kicks off GMC’s electric-truck era with every luxury, tech and capability feature engineers and designers could dream up. A height-adjustable air suspension, four-wheel steering, 24-inch wheels, the versatile MultiPro Tailgate and the Chevy Avalanche-style MultiPro MidGate — which opens the rear of the cab to accommodate longer loads — are all standard on the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1.

Other standard tech includes a 16.8-inch touchscreen with Google Built-In, an 11-inch digital instrument panel and a 14-inch color head-up display. A panoramic glass roof, quilted leather seating and open-pore wood trim cocoon occupants in luxury while digital displays and the open road juggle their attention. GM’s Super Cruise hands-free highway driving is available and will even work while pulling a trailer. GMC says the Sierra EV can tug up to 10,000 pounds or take a payload of up to 1,450 in the bed.

Electric motors front and rear grant the truck four-wheel drive and combine for 754 horsepower and 785 pounds-feet of torque in what GMC calls Max Power mode and Chevrolet refers to as Wide Open Watts mode. While both are less juvenile than the Hummer EV’s Watts to Freedom branding, we wonder if anyone at GMC is familiar with the plotlines from late-’90s episodes of The Simpsons. Based on the precedent set by the Hummer EV, we’re guessing the mode was perhaps named after Homer Simpson’s brash alter ego. With characteristic bravado, Max Power will fling the Sierra EV from 0-60 mph in a claimed 4.5 seconds. Uh oh, SpaghettiOs, indeed.

More to Come

The Sierra EV’s 800-volt electrical architecture is compatible with DC fast charging at up to 350 kilowatts and can add up to 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes. While much of the Denali Edition 1’s luxury content will be exclusive, the electrical architecture will be shared with the rest of the Sierra EV family. Following the Edition 1’s launch this summer, the Elevation and off-road-focused AT4 trims will go on sale as 2025 models.
