The 2023 Buick Encore GX is embracing its role as the entry-level offering in the brand’s SUV lineup, especially after the smaller Encore was axed for the 2023 model year. The Encore GX offers buyers a balanced blend of luxury and versatility. Buick is leaving the core formula mostly untouched for 2023, with the only changes being the addition of a new exterior color and a starting price of $27,095, up $1,500 from 2022 (all pricing includes a $1,195 destination charge).
Focusing on Providing the Essentials
The Encore GX carries over largely unchanged from 2022, with the lone update for the 2023 model being the addition of a new extra-cost color called Moonstone Gray Metallic ($495). The Encore GX’s exterior styling hasn’t changed much since it debuted for the 2020 model year.
The 2023 Encore GX comes with two available engines. The base engine is a turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder that makes 137 horsepower and is mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission. A 155-hp, turbocharged 1.3-liter three-cylinder is available for the front-wheel-drive Select and comes standard on all all-wheel-drive models; it is paired to a CVT when equipped with FWD, while AWD models have a nine-speed automatic.
FWD is standard, with AWD adding $2,000 for the Preferred and Select trims; AWD for the Essence, however, adds $1,600. An 8-inch infotainment system is standard and comes bundled with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality.
