Honda’s popular Civic underwent a redesign for the 2022 model year on both its sedan and hatchback body styles. While we’re still waiting on official information about the compact car’s upcoming sportier variants, the Si and Type R, we’ve already seen pricing for the sedan and now have pricing for the hatchback. The hatchback’s base trim level, LX, will start at $23,915 (all prices include an unchanged $1,015 destination fee), an increase of $700 over the previous generation.

Like the sedan, the hatchback packs a redesigned exterior and interior, with enhanced safety tech and suspension and powertrain refinements that Honda claims make it “the most fun-to-drive Civic Hatchback we’ve ever made.” We haven’t driven the hatch yet, but the new sedan’s handling chops have certainly impressed us.

Engine choices mirror the sedan with a 158-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder or 180-hp, turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder. But the hatchback will pair either of those engines with either a retuned continuously variable automatic transmission or a six-speed manual, the latter available on the Sport and Sport Touring trims. That gives the row-your-own crowd a Civic choice that isn’t the more hardcore — and traditionally manual-only — Si or Type R.

Pricing

On sale now, the 2022 Civic hatchback comes in four trim levels: LX, Sport, EX-L (a more equipped option in place of 2021’s EX) and Sport Touring. All four will cost slightly more than a comparable Civic sedan. Besides offering a manual transmission, the other good news for shoppers is that despite all the upgrades, there’s not necessarily an increase in price over the prior generation.

Also interesting: Choosing the manual or CVT doesn’t involve a difference in cost (automatics have traditionally incurred a price premium). Instead, prices for the manual-equipped Sport and Sport Touring have increased over those of the 2021 model, while the CVT-equipped Sport and Sport Touring remain unchanged.

  • 2022 Civic Hatchback LX (CVT only): $23,915 ($700 increase)
  • 2022 Civic Hatchback Sport (manual or CVT): $25,115 ($800 increase for manual; no increase for CVT)
  • 2022 Civic Hatchback EX-L (CVT only): $27,615 ($1,900 increase compared to 2021 EX)
  • 2022 Civic Hatchback Sport Touring (manual or CVT): $30,415 ($800 increase for manual; no increase for CVT)
