One of the greatest benefits of going to an auto show is being able to see brand-new models for the first time, as well as cross-shop entire automotive segments all in one place — and maybe even test-drive a few. But it’s not all about pragmatism; a crowd pleaser at any auto show is quite the opposite, in fact. Concept cars exhibit the future, showcasing future technologies, forward-looking design themes and sometimes just downright wacky, pie-in-the-sky ideas straight out of a science-fiction film.

So, it’s no surprise that in the days following the official end of the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show on Sunday, our Brian Normile’s roundup of the coolest concept cars in L.A. would emerge as a favorite among readers. The story features five concept cars, including the Rivian R1T and R1S all-electric, semi-autonomous pickup truck and SUV; the Audi e-tron GT all-electric luxury sports car; the BMW Vision iNext fully self-driving SUV; and the stunning Infiniti Prototype 10 all-electric, single-seat speedster.
